YOUTH IN FLAMES

Chaos. Rebellion. A city on the brink. But Millie’s focused on living life to the full - who wouldn’t? Amid the 2019 Hong Kong protests, one girl searches for her sense of home whilst a city fights for its own identity. A high-energy, visceral new play, inspired by real events. With original sound design blending euphoric techno and the raw intensity of a Hong Kong riot, enter Millie's world where being an outsider has always been the norm.

Joining the Dare Theatre group in October of 2024, the creative development of the sonic landscape is a project I’m most passionate about. Being uniquely qualified, due to my ten year residency in Hong Kong, the crafting of this worlds sound design contains insights of life in Hong Kong during this tumultuous time. Notably, this work contains original music and environmental soundscapes with self-recorded sounds from Hong Kong. An ever-evolving project, many different iterations of Youth In Flames have reached varied audiences. Gaining invaluable audience insight, this has helped shape the play in preparation for the Edinburgh Fringe in which Dare Theatre will be performing with ZOO.
